Why and What is Umeshu?

Included in the packaging, umeshu is a liqueur where ume (Japanese plums) are steeped in sugar and alcohol. The result is a delectable, sweet and sour drink that can be enjoyed by even those who aren't necessarily fans of alcohol. Westerners know it as plum wine. +Umeshu brings bold flavor by mixing herbal, citrus, and fruity flavors with the original to create an even more delicious experience while still maintaining that strong, alcoholic punch. While selecting the final flavors, things like traditional Japanese fruits and what would appeal to a wide audience were taken into consideration.

Bottling Flavor

The bottle for +Umeshu is an opaque glass that is colored to mimic the addition of flavors to the original recipe. The 3 different flavors are Red Shiso (perilla), Yuzu (citrus junos), and Ichigo (strawberry). Each plant and fruit has its own unique color and flavor. The bottle shape was inspired by organic lines that could be found in art movements such as Art Nouveau, which in turn was inspired by Japanese woodblock prints.

Surprise In a Box

The bottle is packaged in a white box with colorful top and bottom. The colorful logo is meant to catch the consumers attention while framed on a deluxe, textured box. The box is meant to leave the consumer to want to know more of the product which will lead to picking up the box and turning it to its side. The sides explain what the beverage is and what it tastes like. The back will cap-off the experience by showing the colorful bottle in a window that contrasts against the stark white packaging.
